We got on the bus at 11:00 again. Then we traveled to UDCI, where we had lunch brought to us from the Subway down the street. We ate lunch, and following had the second presentation. This one covered student code of conduct, health, wellness and safety, and public transportation in Suzhou (none of which we were recommended to use, for safety reasons and to guard against one of us getting lost).
After the lecture, we got on the bus for a coach tour of SIP. We first visited Times Square, where we disembarked and explored for a bit.
After the lecture, we got on the bus for a coach tour of SIP. We first visited Times Square, where we disembarked and explored for a bit.
Then we drove around the north shore of Jinji Lake, where the construction of several major commercial high-rises is underway. One of these projects, Which is almost completed, is commonly known as the Pants Building, due to the fact that it looks like a giant pair of pants.
After that we drove through a scenic district called Ligongdi before heading to Link City, a mall which we will be able to visit every Friday evening via the shuttle. We spent some hours there, and most of us found some sort of food to eat, and all of us ended up running into each other toward the end and getting gelato The mall has five floors. The bottom and top floors are mostly food, but the bottom floor has a variety of small shops. The other three floors are taken up by all kinds of stores, some of which are split between the two floors. There is also a small indoor amusement park that occupies the same area on each of the three middle floors, and there is a Sam’s Club that is accessible from all of the floors. We had a sort of air hockey tournament at the amusement park on the third floor. Perhaps to my discredit, I become very intense when I play air hockey, and I sent the puck flying multiple times.
After the mall, we returned, and most of us had a proper dinner. At 19:00, we had our first monthly community building meeting, which was held in the recreation room of the apartment building. Afterwards we all returned to our apartments and headed to bed, the students with 08:00 philosophy and 12:00 English grumbling as they did so.
